Would the Jets be better served by trading their first round pick for some immediate help?

Best player available, regardless of position. Picking to try and fill a roster hole is how you end up with Logan Stanley.

Agreed on you pick the best player available! And at 13 they'll be fine! But what about dallas 3rd oa ? Apparently is in play ,cause dallas and Winnipeg were talking. .trouba? Or could it be 13th +myers?

Myers + pick or prospect for Dallas 3rd overall and take Lehtonen off their hands- more cap space for win now mode. Buy out Niemi for 1.5M for 2 years and move on to two new netminders.

no way its Trouba!!!!!! only way i could see Myers plus the 13th is if the Jets have already made another deal to aquire a D and Patrick slipped to 3

trouble is, contrary to what most think the Jets do not always select the best player available. Go back and take a look at the year we took Sutter in the 2nd and Kosmachuck in the 3rd, ouch!!! could have of had about 12 NHL all stars that went after those two. Now, to be clear, I do think we draft well, just saying not always!!

I would take that a step further and say that we draft ok in the first round...after that...not so much.

Agreed about later rounds success but probably the same for most teams. Absolutely something good would have to go with Myers in a trade including a conditional pick based on # of games dressed but helping alleviate their expensive goalie log jam (who else is asking about them or has a spot open for an experienced goalie for a year and the cap space) has value to a team in a win now position to balance the scales in a trade. Other than coming off an injury Myers #'s and resume is comparable or better than the dmen in the conversation for trade. This is a player who was preventing Trouba from automatically being one of our top 2 RHD. He is underutilized as a 3rd pairing RHD when next year he can be signed to an extension. He is going to want top 4 money.which is not going to happen. Trading him + to get top LHD in the draft and a serviceable goalie as a a throw in for a year when the Jets are going to be a bubble team again with another injection of youth and the usual problems I.e.PP, PK and penalty taking to fix.

Am I wrong in hoping the Jets take a skilled player WITH SIZE for their 1st rounder ? ... based on your blog I'd jump on Valimaki if available ... nothing wrong with stocking the shelves with another left Dman ... who knows - one day we could have Morrissey, Stanley, and Valimaki patrolling the left side ... maybe .. sorta maybe
.
With 2 first rounders in both of the last 2 yrs and a 'shallow' draft - now would be the time to entertain a trade on the 1st rounder ... top flight goalie ? NHL ready left Dman for a 2 yr stint ?
.
Trouba ... Troubs ... if last yr's trade talk was a stunt by his agent and he does wanna stay - sign him long term and keep 'em ... if he does't see himself long term in the blue & blue - 1st rounder & Troubs for a top flight goalie - right after expansion draft or as part of an expansion draft stunt

Jets are good enough to not be a bubble team, if in fact we are a bubble team again it will be a failure in my book

the only goalie I'm trading a first rounder and trouba for is Carey price and price has to sign extension before hand.

As I look at the Jets D we may have in Morrissey and Trouba a pairing to grow and rival Keith/Seabrook over time.

Both are very young but the potential is there. Lock them up, D are hard to find.

At 13 if there isn't a left handed D man then trade for Muzzin or Martinez as LA has no prospects and cap issues

Forgot about Kosmachuk and Sutter. That's what happens when you target size first, but to be fair, Kosmachuk has a chance.

We don't need left handed d over right. We just need better d, don't fixate on what side they play. Myers is injury prone and has two years left on his deal, Trouba is still a wild card as to whether or not he wants to be here long term. We might just be scrambling for right shooting D in two years? Take the best D available. D also have more trade value than forwards so there is an argument for taking a D slightly lower on your draft board today than a forward knowing that if both players develop equally moving forward, ultimately the D player will have higher value in the trade market down the road.

I don't disagree about left or right D but if there is a run on dmen the forward quality depth In the
3-15 spots could leave a nice center at 13 which carry good trade value as well.

You Trouba until you absolutely have to or want to trade him. Still you don't do so until you get the deal you like. Let him sit. The league needs to limit no trade contracts.

I think the Jets should trade for an elite center. Look at Pittsburgh they have a two elite center system and they are in their 4th cup final with a crap d-corps. I think we have the prospects and players to trade for guys like John Tavares or Nathan Mackinnon.

Being able to trade for Travares is more doable than being able to keep Travares. He hits free agency kiss him good bye along with the assets it cost to get him here in the first place.

The next time I hear or read the name "Tavares" on a Jets post ANYWHERE, I'm gonna be upset. Signing him is gonna be a huge mistake for whichever team overpays to get him. Trading for him will be even worse.
